Nicole: Hey I hate to spring this on you pretty late, but I’m actually gonna take the day off work tomorrow so you don’t need to take care of Nathan.
Nicole quickly pulled up Julie’s contact. Nicole: …I’m sorry I’m taking the day off Waverly :( I guess you’ll have to make it up to me. Nicole: I really really would love to, but I can’t. Nicole really wanted to take her up on that offer, but she knew it would be important to spend the day with Nathan given what tomorrow meant for both of them. She was excited to see a text from Waverly.
Nicole kissed the top of his head before feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket. Nicole turned on one of his shows and Nathan got himself situated in her lap, leaning his head back on her chest as he ate his ice cream. The pair cleaned up Nathan’s legos and put them in the living room. “It’s getting late,” Nicole said, checking her phone, “What do you say we clean up your legos and watch a show, and then bath time?” Walters never gives us homework on Wednesdays,” Nathan explained. “Are you okay with missing school?” Nicole asked. She’ll be sad if we don’t see her on her birthday,” Nathan said. “Here you go,” she said as she laid down on her side next to him and started absentmindedly putting some of the legos together, “So tomorrow’s Mommy’s birthday.” “Yay!” Nathan yelled as Nicole got his ice cream together, also getting a little for herself. “Both?!” Nicole asked in mock exaggeration, “I guess that’s okay…” “Of course,” Nicole said as she put Nathan down, “Which flavor?” “Can I have some ice cream while I play with my legos more?” Nathan asked. “That’s my boy,” Nicole said as she kissed the boy’s cheek. “No! Nathan Haught Pressman doesn’t get scared!” “Well that’s pretty awesome,” Nicole said, “Were you scared?”
She already knew about the snake given that his teacher had emailed all the parents to make sure they were comfortable with it, assuring everyone that the snake was not dangerous at all. “It was awesome!” the boy said, “We had science class today and there was a guy who brought in a giant snake! It was this big!” the boy said, stretching his arms out. “Hey buddy! How was your day?” Nicole asked, lifting the boy into the air. “Hi Mama!” a little boy of about six years old yelled as he ran up to Nicole to give her a hug. “Bye,” Nicole said as the woman left and she made her way into the kitchen. He’s just in the kitchen playing with legos. “Here you go,” Nicole said, handing the check to Julie. “Oh yeah that’s fine,” the woman responded as Nicole collected her checkbook and wrote one out to “Julie King.” You okay with a check? I don’t have any cash on me.” “No idea where he gets that from,” Nicole responded, making the woman laugh, “Well, thank you. He got his homework done without complaint, he didn’t even want to watch much TV, and he ate his vegetables first when I gave him his dinner,” the woman responded. She enjoyed their moment of comfortable silence before continuing, “So how was he?” “Yep,” Nicole responded, sounding much less excited than she really was given how tired she was. However, my boss told me he wants me to be sheriff when he retires.” I’m so sorry,” the woman said as she sat down next to Nicole. I arrested him but he was let out without bail,” Nicole explained. “This awful guy was putting his phone under teenage girls' skirts. She heard footsteps coming into the living room from the kitchen, so she looked up to see a woman of about 20 years old and smiled. She took off her shoes and jacket, took her gun out of its holster and put it in its safe which was in a closet down the hallway from the front door, and finally collapsed on the couch, rubbing her eyes. She pulled up to her driveway and made her way inside. Seeing Tucker getting away with sexual harassment had really set her on edge.
